Careers and qualifications

In the field of Occupational Psychology there are two gold standards necessary for professional practice:

  1. being legally entitled to use the title Occupational Psychologist and Professionally recognised
  2. being professionally entitled to use the title Chartered Psychologist.

Types

Registered Occupational Psychologists can also use the titles Registered Psychologist or Practitioner Psychologist

Chartered Psychologists work in different areas of psychology. Those working in the field of occupational psychology are Members of the Division of Occupational Psychology. The types of Division Membership for Chartered Psychologists are:

  • Full Member
  • In Training Member
  • General Member

People working towards either the legal or the professional title can be called Occupational Psychologists-in-Training or Trainee-Occupational Psychologists.

Registered Occupational Psychologist

Chartership (Qualification in Occupational Psychology) to be Full Division Member

British Psychological Society accredited MSc Occupational Psychology

British Psychological Society accredited BSc or BA Psychology (i.e. conferring Graduate Basis of Chartership

  7. Employee relations & motivation
  8. Organisational development & change

Currently, there is only one route to becoming a Registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council and that is by completing the British Psychological Society’s Chartership in Occupational Psychology (the Qualification in Occupational Psychology).

Continuing Professional Development

As a member of the British Psychological Society and as a Registered Psychologist with the Health Professions Council you must engage in Continuing Professional Development.
